Windsor police want to speak to a man seen on surveillance video in an east end grocery store in connection with a case of tampered baby formula.
The man's image was captured on the video on Aug. 13 at the Sobeys at Tecumseh Mall.
"We're not considering him as a suspect but we feel that because of the time he was in the store and what investigation has revealed that we would like to speak to him," said Staff Sgt. Ed McNorton.
On Aug. 15, a day after purchasing a can of Enfamil A+ baby formula, a woman fed some to her baby before realizing it was detergent.
The can had been cut lengthwise and around the can's circumference and the wrapper replaced with tape.
Another woman came forward with a can similarly cut but filled with what appeared to be dirt.
Last week, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued an alert to consumers in the area after it had four reports of baby formula in cans being tampered with.
Sobeys removed all cans of powdered baby formula from its shelves in Ontario as a precaution. One of the cans was purchased at Price Chopper, which is owned by Sobeys.
Windsor police continue to investigate with the assistance of investigators with Sobeys and Enfamil manufacturer Mead Johnson.
The man captured in the video is of average height, between 25 and 30 years of age with a thin beard, a greyish coloured sleeveless t-shirt, checked shorts and low-cut shoes or sandals.
Anyone with information is asked to call Windsor police at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS (8477).
