You make some good points, but what are those photos all about?

Dude, seriously, you need to improve your English. I am not good at writing, but at least I can read, and I feel difficult to read your post.

Agree!!! English is the main reason why most of the Chinese are having difficult to hook with the Canadian society.

I feel up sad about Chinese people who always complain about less chance on jobs & not having a good living. They always complain about this and that but they do not remember that they are not in Asia. They cannot move the living standard from one place to another place. This is a different country. We have different law, rules, taexs and living style here and they are required to have a good English skill to survive in this harsh society.

In order to get a job, I would recommend:
(1) Write the resume and cover letter in professional style.
(2) ask someone to prove read the grammar of the resume and cover letter.
(3) Try to gain some job related experience before Graduated (Apply to student only)
(4) Don't be late on the interview. You need to arrive 15 minutes earlier before the interview.
(5) Dress in Suit instead of t-shirt and pants. Have some make up for ladies. Guys need to gel their hair. You need to give them a good impression and show them your respect on the job.
(6) Do some research on the background of the company. If they ask you question, on: "Why they should hire you?" "What kind of benefit you can bring to the company?" "What do you know about us?" You know what you can answer.
(7) No matter they hire you or not, you still need to be polite. They did not hire you this time; do not mean they do not hire you in the future. Give them a good image will eventually gain you some ground. On the other hand, you earn some interview experience for the next interview.

Man, Smartpo and I did not mean to hurt your feeling. But you do need to improve your grammar. You didn't feel good when you looked for jobs. I hope that this was not because of something that you didn't realize. That was the reason I pointed this out. I never look down to you and I think Smartpo had similar feeling. I didn't mean to say my English is better than you. But if you think I am pointing finger at you, I have nothing to say.

As for the Hong Kong people, I have to agree that many of them do feel that they are better than mainland people. But there are still many people from Hong Kong, such as Smartpo, who have warm heart and dedicate themselves to help others.  When you look at when and what smartpo posted, you would understand what I am saying. Although I don't agree that English is the only main reason, but what he mentioned above is mostly true in US and Canada.

I know many people,  who felt that they may have better career or life in China, decided to go back. This also happens in US. So if you dont feel that you are living well in Canada, why not think about this. We are not heroes, we can't change the world by our own hands. What we can do is to adapt to this new place or leave. It's sad but it's the reality.  I do not agree that people decide to go back China (or Hong Kong) are mainly because they are not accepted here or cannot survive here. People make decisions based on what they have or what they will gain. So if they feel they can have a better life back in China or Hong Kong, why not go back? Also, please Note that the reason for people from Hong Kong immigrate to Canada was different (Mainly becasue of 1997).

I did not say that I am good.

I can tell you the truth. I am working in a Canadian Company and I am the only person who can speak Cantonese. Since English is not my first language, they will not allow me to deal with any customers. Always give me a failing grade on communication on the performance review because of pronunciation! I am upset because no matter how I try, I still have some tone from my first language. It is not fair but it is my choice to stay in Canada and I have to live with it.

People from Hong Kong keep coming back because they want to earn more money and they had what they want - Canadian citizenship.

For the second generation, I do not know the reason why they want to go back but there is one thing for sure. No matter where they are, they still Chinese. They have the yellow skins as we have.

I agree with your point that your English is bad and I do not think PHD in China is proportional to the English level he had.

The upper management is not only against Chinese people. They will against to the one who do not have good communication skills which means speaking fluent English. Upper management is like the company's image. You need to face a lot of major client of your company. You do not want to have someone rune your business due to miscommunication.

I am not proud of anything. I feel sad about it. Why do people always complain about this and that and never think about themselves? There are many Americans and Canadians who can speak fluently Mandarin or Cantonese who are doing business in Asia. Why can’t we do that? If you have time complaining, why not take some improvement course and try to get involve with the majority? We need someone to speak for us.

“The English is only a barrier and excuse” Yes, in someway it is true. It did not mean that you should use it as an excuse and do nothing. It does not mean that you are powerless and cannot break the barrier in the future. Give yourself some confidence. Tell yourself that you can do it. No one was born in prefect condition. It is up to you to improve yourself and control your future. Blaming people or things will not help you achieve anything but work hard and focus will help you to achieve your goal.

I do not like the takeover from the Chinese government. They really mess up the economics in HK but that they still work hard and try to make it up. The impression for me is really bad at the beginning but I will give them a passing grade now. If seven millions people can accept the big changes and go though the suffer; why can’t you? Grow up and don’t act like a kid. It’s time to show them our sprit. Chinese can speak better English than Canadian.  

PS. Don’t look everything grey. You still have a lot of possibility in the future. You do not need to draw your own boundary and fix you future now.
