为什么申请社保卡还要让你换驾照？

为什么申请社保卡还要让你换驾照？出示lease不是证明你住在这里吗？ 为什么还要逼着你换驾照呢？是不是我运气不好，碰到了很麻烦的officer？

It was becasue Driver License is a photo ID and it is popular in Canada. Lease will only show that you are living on that location but they will not know if you are exact one from that lease. People may have the same name with differnt living address.

我想知道留学生到底能不能申请，因为以前我去过申请，但是人家说只能是这里的人才可以申请，不过那是差不多2，3年前的事情了。不知道制度有没有改变

I was a VISA student before. I had SIN but I applied 14 years ago.

sorry, i studied in USA, different case as yours.

One of the reason you are asked for driver license is that if you are living in Windsor, you are supposed to change your diver license to a Canadian license unless you dont drive. Especially when you study in US, they want you to prove that you do live in windsor.

A lot of Chinese from US and have maple card do not physically live in windsor. I think they notice this. So if they think your are suspicous, they will ask you for more supportive document. Lease is not enough to prove this.

You can show them your electricity bill or bank statement, or even notice of accessment for income tax.

You case is very odd. Because this only happens when you apply for the health care card.  they seldom ask for any documents other than landing document when u apply for SIN card. They dont even ask for lease when I applied for the SIN card.
